Oil Tank Removal in Bensalem Township

Bensalem Township publishes a tank permit application and a fire-rescue fee schedule that names residential aboveground and underground tank work. A leak is a separate question.

Bensalem Township publishes a tank-permit application on the same fire-rescue forms page as an environmental-remediation document. Those are different papers. An unused tank is still a removal or replacement question. A release is a different job.

What the township has published

Bensalem’s fire-rescue forms page lists a Tank Permit Application and a separate Environmental Remediation document. Listing both documents does not mean the remediation document applies to every tank removal. The township’s fire-rescue fee schedule names “Residential Tanks - Aboveground/Underground Installation & Removal,” so the published fee line covers both an aboveground tank and an underground tank. Those fees belong on the township schedule. A fee schedule is not a price for the work.

Use the township copies for the application fields:

A tank permit is not a cleanup

Listing a tank permit and an environmental remediation document on the same forms page does not mean every removal is a contamination case. An unused tank with no odor and no staining is still a removal or replacement decision. If there is odor, staining, or fuel where it does not belong, start on the leaking-tank page. Pennsylvania’s underground heating-oil cleanup reimbursement can apply only to a qualifying release from a buried tank. It is not a grant for ordinary removal, and basement tanks are outside that program. Read the reimbursement page before anyone treats it as payment for the job.

Basement, buried, or a new tank

A basement tank comes out through the house. A buried tank means digging, and the township’s fee line is explicit that underground work is in view. Staying on oil heat and putting in another tank is replacement, which the same fee heading also names as installation. Neighborhood names such as Trevose, Cornwells Heights, or Andalusia do not replace the municipality on the deed. Confirm the parcel is in Bensalem Township before using this page’s links.

Have a heating-oil tank question?

Call with the borough or township, where the tank sits, and whether it is still in use. If you smell oil or see staining, start with the leaking-tank page.
